Statement from Mike Cassling, Chairman, Nebraska MultiSport Complex Board of Directors: On behalf of the nonprofit Nebraska MultiSport Complex and its Board of Directors, supporters, partners, and friends, we are grateful to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development for its recognition of the positive impact the Nebraska MultiSport Complex will have on the lives of individuals of all ages in addition to attracting thousands to Nebraska to participate in athletic competitions at our complex in while enjoying the amenities that Nebraska has to offer. The Nebraska MultiSport Complex is a game-changer for Nebraska. We are delighted to receive the multi-million-dollar funding from the Shovel-Ready Capital Recovery and Investment Act. This important funding will help underwrite the costs of building a first-class, state-of-the-art multi-sport facility that will allow us to keep youth and adult sports teams from leaving Nebraska to compete in other states due to limited sports venues in Nebraska. The facility will attract and host large-scale national, regional, and local competitive events that will have a significant and recurring economic impact for our community. Located in the heart of newly developed areas in La Vista, Nebraska that offer attractive hotels, restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues, Phase 1 of the Nebraska MultiSport Complex encompasses a Championship Field Complex with 12 all-turf, lighted multipurpose fields. It is expected to have an annual economic impact of $9.9 million with $401,000 impacting local sales and lodging taxes each year. The facility is expected to draw annually more than 32,000 overnight visitors plus 39,200 local visitors to our great state. We sincerely thank Nebraska Department of Economic Development Director Anthony Goins, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska Legislature members for their vision and efforts in allocating the $100 million from the federal American Rescue Plan Act, and the $15 million from the State General Fund. Nebraska MultiSport Complex representatives are honored to be among the 76 nonprofit organizations receiving funds that will build and enhance our communities, improve lives and further economic prosperity across Nebraska. This fall, we are excited to debut several of our multipurpose fields on which youth, adults, and young children just learning to play sports will enjoy playing and competing in soccer, baseball, fast-pitch softball, lacrosse, flag football and rugby. The Nebraska MultiSport Complex is committed to its mission of providing access for all ages to high-quality, year-round athletic facilities and sports programming needed to pursue a healthy lifestyle and competitive goals.
